Strength Āsana 

The first theme of this series of workshops will be Strength Āsana and how it is fundamental to strengthened your muscles to create a stable foundation for the rest of your āsana practice. It creates support for your joints and is essential to a healthy approach to intense muscles extensions.  We will also study how these Āsana have an impact on our first energetic center – Mūlādhāra chakra, which means root, and is linked to our ability to dig in and feel firmly rooted in our life. 

Hip openers in Yoga

In this workshop we will journey through many variations of  hip openers: seated, standing, frontal, lateral, etc, and understand how they unlock our emotional body. Many times when we do not process emotions, they stagnate in our muscles and joints. These blockage are mostly located in our big joints, one of them the hip. By releasing the muscles of the hip joint we will also release “stuck” emotions which is extremely healthy.  These positions will also interact with your second energetic center – Svadishtana, associated with pleasure, sense of oneself, relationships, sensuality, procreation and emotions.

Transitions in Yoga

In this workshop we will practice the transitions in between āsanas. This will stimulate your creativity and your harmony in movement. In Yoga, many times we only focus on the āsana when we are in stillness, forgetting that “stillness” can also be found in movement. Matter is in fact in constant movement, and finding stillness in movement is art. Transitions also requires a lot of strength, specially in the core, which work the third energetic center –Manipura or solar plexus. This center helps you to tune with the self and experience self-love.

Back bending

Or should I say heart openings? Back bending will not only create more mobility in your back. It will also move your emotions in your heart center. By extending the chest you move the energy of the two organs that are mostly related to your emotions. When you have strong emotional reactions what organs will instantly react? Heart and Lungs! Heart rate elevates and we tend to hyperventilate. So when we block emotions (which is very common for the human being) we block the energy of these two organs and consequently the heart center, called Anāhata in the Chakra system. This chakra is very special and maybe the most important to us today. It is the one that is related to love, true love! If all of us had this energetic center opened the world would be extremely different!

Forward bends

These positions do not get the importance that they deserve. They are extremely important for a healthy and mobile back and are a perfect to stimulate inner perception. As you contract your body forward, you compress the abdominal organs, extend the muscles on your back legs and glutes (extremely important to the integrity of your lower back), and enter positions where you unify matter. In this unity, you will dive further into the deepness of your inner world. They are also perfect to massage the “organs” of the neck – thyroid and parathyroids, essential to many body functions; and the vocal chords where expression is created which is also related to the Viśuddha chakra.

Inverted Āsana

What happens when we put our head down? The benefits are too many to state them all here, so I will only state my favourite one: Pineal Gland! The pineal gland is the most important gland in the beginning stages of self-discovery. This is the main gate to expand perception and extend beyond sensory conditioning. Many think that reality is only perceived from our 5 senses, but by restricting to the senses you shut doors to real reality just as a bee is restricted to only two colors. We know for fact that colors are result of different frequency waves of light and that in this range of waves we only see a very small part. That doesn’t mean that more colors doesn’t exist. By opening the third eye, you open the “six sense” and extend perception to more colors… In fact it has been stated many times in ancient yogic text and by many masters, that you can see colors impossible to describe in deep meditative practices.

Dhyānasāna

This is the true purpose of Āsana practice! To reach these form of positions with full comfort and stability. Did you know that Āsana means “seated” and if we see all the ancient text of Yoga they only describe and drew seated positions of Yoga. The goal of the physical practice of Yoga is for you to obtain a stable and comfortable positions to practice Dhyāna, which is meditation. If the practice of Āsana is distancing you from the comfort of the seated position your practice should not be called Āsana… In this workshop we will study these positions in an interesting and fun way, adding some inversions, back bendings and forward bends. If you think it will be a easy workshop, you are mistaken.

This event is held exclusively in Portuguese. They are monthly recurring events with the intention of helping you in your meditative journey. This practice is probably the hardest in Yoga, but definitely the one that will give you back the most.

Through meditation we can reach high frequency states, which is proven to create many benefits, organically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. If you apply this practice in your life as a daily routine, I guarantee you, you will change your life!

This event is with free contribution and does not have limited spots. It is held in Estoril Aperaltar. Anyone can join, with or without knowledge of meditative practices.
